There are several diagnostic utilities available in Windows XP®, such as the Disk Cleanup wizard, which cleans old unnecessary files from the hard drive to create more disk space.
Step 2: Disk Defragmenter Utility
The Disk Defragmenter utility lets you know whether the drive requires defragmentation. You can choose to defragment the drive, close the status window, or view a report on fragmentation.
Step 3: Disk Error Utility
The Disk Error utility is useful if you notice problems copying files or notice file corruption. To run the program, open My Computer and right-click the hard disk you want to check for errors.
Step 4: Dr. Watson
Windows XP also has the Dr. Watson tool, which is very useful for troubleshooting application errors. To start Dr. Watson, enter DRWTSN32 from the Run command in the Start menu.
