Error 1200 or 1203 Message When Mapping to Drive C

Affected Products: Desktops
Affected Operating Systems: Windows® 98 SE, Windows® Me

ISSUE: If you receive an error message 1200 or 1203 while assigning a drive letter during drive mapping, it may be the result of a LASTDRIVE statement in the Config.sys file. This statement prohibits the computer from assigning higher letters in the alphabet. For example, LASTDRIVE=P tells the computer not to allow drive letters beyond P, such as Q, R, S, and so forth.

This error can be resolved by either changing the LASTDRIVE statement in the Config.sys file to allow higher drive letters, removing the line statement entirely, or assigning a lower drive letter during mapping.

RESOLUTION: To edit the Config.sys file, use the following steps.

Note: Microsoft® Windows® 98 was used for this example. The steps may differ slightly for other operating systems.

  1. From the Start menu, point to Programs, and then click Command Prompt.

Note: Verify that you are in the root directory of drive C. If you are not on drive C, type: C:. Press the ENTER key to go to drive C. If you are not at the root drive, type: CD\. Press ENTER.

  2. At the command prompt, type: Edit C:\Config.sys. Press ENTER.

  3. Perform one of the following options:

    • Remove the LASTDRIVE= statement from the Config.sys file.
    • Change the LASTDRIVE= statement to Z.

  4. To save the changes, press ALT+F, and then press the X key.

  5. In the Save file dialog box, click Enter to save the file.

  6. At the command prompt, type: Exit. Press ENTER.

  7. Shut down Windows and restart the computer.

After you restart your computer, the AnyPoint Sharing and Mapping software should automatically start and continue the sharing and mapping process. If the software does not automatically start, from the Start menu, point to Programs, Intel AnyPoint Network, and then click Sharing and Mapping Software and manually map the drive.
